Antiochus IX King of the Seleucid Empire from 114 BC to 96 BC.
Antiochus IX was the son of Antiochus VII Sidetes and Cleopatra Thea, and ruler of the Seleucid Empire from 116–96 BC. He ruled alongside his brother Antiochus VIII Grypus.

According to the description given by Diodorus, Antiochus IX resembled Antiochus IV in character and certainly resembled him in hostility to the Jews. The circumstances were different, however. The relative strength of Syria and Judea had changed, very much to the advantage of the latter. In 110-107 BC he attempted to lend assistance to the Samaritans, who were hard pressed by the Jews, but he was easily beaten off. A second attempt to subjugate Judea with the help of Egyptian soldiers failed as well.

He was killed in battle by the son of Grypus, Seleucus VI Epiphanes, in 96 BC.
